A community foundation set in the centre of Buckinghamshire, Heart of Bucks is a charity dedicated to making a difference to the lives of local people by funding projects and not-for-profit organisations. In the past 4 years, they have distributed over £7m in grants for local charities and good causes.
Our Society has partnered with Heart of Bucks for a number of years, holding an endowment fund with them that has enabled us to reach and support a range of local causes throughout the county, all dedicated to looking after the communities that make up Buckinghamshire. With their help, we’ve been able to support groups such as Youth Concern, Child Bereavement UK and AgeUK Buckinghamshire, just to name a few.
Since 2000, Heart of Bucks have aimed to strengthen and support Buckinghamshire communities in meaningful ways. To do this, they fund inclusively, awarding their grants and loans to a diverse range of not-for-profit groups. A vital part of this process involves engaging directly with the groups that they are interested in supporting, to ensure that the funding is funnelled towards projects that will be effective. For instance, they have recently launched the Young Futures Fund, administered by a panel of young people so they have a direct say in how funds are distributed to the issues that matter to them. They also are continuing to the Bucks Data Exchange project, in partnership with other local infrastructure charities, an exciting opportunity to better understand the issues affecting local people and communities through data.
